Getting My Stride Back..Precision Run at Equinox

Running has always been part of my workout routine. Beginning with my first marathon 20 years ago. i remember training for that marathon one step at a time. I wasn’t a big runner, but knew I wanted to run a marathon to prove to myself I could do it. I started going on small runs in Central Park, starting with three miles and building it up from there bit by bit. I finished that marathon in just under four hours. Since then I’ve completed two additional marathons with longer finishing times, but I’m ok with that.

I went from running three to six miles four times a week in the park to developing my own 25 minute program that inlcuded one minute sprints. Then I moved onto Tabata runs (20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 4 sets consisting of eight cycles each). While doing these sprint runs, I stopped doing my endurance runs. However, I still felt I was getting my cardio in and teamed these runs up with spinning. This went on for years. I then started running a lot at Barrysbootcamp. Usually, running at different speeds for two 15 minute rounds.

However, during this time away from my endurance runs I felt I was getting faster, but couldn’t withstand these speeds for any meaningful length of time. I was losing my endurance. I decided to make a conscious effort to get my endurance back. I believed this would have a positive impact on my overall cardiovascular health and well being. As it’s winter, I went to the treadmill to begin my three to four mile runs, but got completely bored until I discovered the Precision Run class at Equinox. Precision Run at Equinox is a 50 minute treadmill class that is carefully curated and based off of your personal best running speed ( a pace you can do for a solid minute). It’s totally performance based with each run being unique. Since taking Precision Run my endurance is improving. I’m not bored because I’m running with others and the coaches are extremely thoughtful and precise in their cues. What I love about this class is that proper recovery time is incorporated into the 50 minutes. Equinox has opened up its’ own stand alone Precision Run studio in the Flatiron District in Manhattan with their own customized Woodway Treadmills. The studio is beautiful with oxygen-enriched air, lighting that ebbs and flows with your exertion and custom sound that correlates to your run.

I’ve decided to make Precision Run a part of my weekly workout regiment. Wether you’re a solid runner or someone that dosnt’t think running is for them, I highly suggest you give Precision Run a try. I guarantee you’ll be hooked.
